The Ulster District Athletics qualifying rounds were held in Antrim on Tuesday. Following a successful week at the Donegal ETB athletics last week, a team of twenty students from Mulroy College and their teacher, Ms Crampsie participated in the event. It proved to be the most successful championships in the history of athletics for the college, with five Ulster District medallists qualifying for the finals this coming weekend. All students participated to the highest standard participating in very strong competitions.

Aiden Connolly (2nd year) won gold in the junior boys 800m with a brave run leading from the gun to the finish.  Karen Gallagher (1st year) won a silver medal in the minor girls race with a gutsy performance in a very talented field.  Dennis Mc Ginley ( 1st year) came through the heats to win a bronze medal in the minor boys 100m final.  Later in the evening Kevin Logue (3rd year) battled hard with St.Joseph’s Derry student Odhren Mc Kane in the intermediate boys 3000m to win the silver medal in a very tough race. To finish Mulroy’s very successful day Shane Irwin (5th year ) who ran in the intermediate boys 200m heats earlier in the afternoon stormed through the field to take the silver medal in the final.

Ulster District Athletics
