The Road Safety Authority Shuttle bus and roll-over car visited Mulroy College for three days.
The event was organised to raise awareness of road safety among students.
All students had the opportunity to visit the bus, experience a driving simulator, test their reaction time for braking and lots more.
Students over 16 years experienced what it would be like in an accident if a car rolled over, they received a talk on the correct way to put on and wear a seat belt in order to minimise injuries in an accident.
Younger students received a demonstration with dummies representing people in the car showing the importance of ensuring everybody wears a seat belt when travelling.
During the three days Ms Louise Clara, Road Safety Promotion Officer, visited the school where she gave presentations on road safety to all students from first to 6th year. Local Gardaí were also in attendance at the talks.
We spoke to two fifth year students, Caoimhe Blaney and Amy Mc Laughlin after coming off the roll-over car.
Caoimhe said “it was so scary, to feel that my body had no control. The blood rushed to my head as the car turned but I could do nothing to help. I can only imagine what it would have been like there was speed involved.”
Amy said “I loved trying the braking speed, but I was really bad at it. IT takes a lot of concentration when driving. I will not be speeding when I start driving and will be telling my family all about it”.
The school committee would like to thank staff of the RSA, Mr Brian O Donnell, Road Safety Officer with Donegal County Council and the local Gardaí for their help in securing the visit.
