On Tuesday the 19th November , thirty seven athletes from Mulroy College travelled to Gaoth Dobhair to participate in the Donegal Post Primary Schools Athletics Championship with their teacher Ms Evelyn Crampsie. All students ran well in their respective categories and returned to school with high spirits and lots of medals.
Gillian Marley (6th year) won gold in her section with a minute to spare over the second place athlete. Gillian demonstrated excellent front running from the beginning and timed her pace well from the onset. Patrick McConigley 5th year competed in the senior boys section, he raced a competitive race to come in 6th overall.
The 1st year Boys were the overall Donegal Schools Cross Country winning team. The students involved were Aiden Connolly (3rd), Ben Harkin (8th) Darren Mc Elwaine (10th) and Shaun Kerr (35th ). Their combined result brought the gold to the college.
Both the 2nd and 3rd Year Boys teams were also successful both finishing the third overall team . The 2nd year team included Robert Fox (9th), Kevin Logue (11th), Eoghan Bradley (14th) and Kevin Mc Laughlin (15th). The 3rd year team consisted of, Martin Lynagh, John Hereghty, Shaun Coyle and Seamus Clinton.
Many girls competed also but were narrowly beaten to medal positions. A selection of the first years were Thea Duffy, Catherine Grier, Siobhan Sweeney and Rachel Roarty, and the second years included Caoimhe Walsh, Rachel Ivers, Nicole Carr and Annie Dugera. A huge congratulations is extended to all who participated and all who were successful on the day. We look forward to seeing the names appearing on podium positions again soon.
