1st Year induction

Starting secondary school is a big step for any young person.

In Mulroy College we take great time and care to ensure a smooth transition for all first years with a year long programme to ensure they are both well prepared and well ready for everything exciting we have to offer.

Step 1

When students are in 6th class the Principal of Mulroy College, another teacher and some students from Mulroy College visit every primary school and gives a presentation with information about Mulroy College and transitioning into secondary school.

Step 2

A number of key documents are available on our website for you to access:

  • School prospectus
  • Junior Cycle Curriculum Booklet
  • A presentation from our Principal
  • A welcome message from our Senior Student Leadership Team
  • A welcome message from some first years
  • Open Night Presentation

Step 3

All 6th class students are invited to an Open Day where they sample all new subjects and follow a timetable for the day

Step 4

All 6th class students are invited to an Open Evening with their families to access all areas of the school and meet staff and students

Step 5

All students enrolled complete an entrance test

Step 6

  • All students enrolled are invited into the school in May for a Transfer Day
  • They meet their class teacher and year head
  • All students are grouped into their groupings for the following year so students are aware of all other students in their class to alleviate any anxieties for September
  • They receive a transfer booklet that gives them all the information they need about starting in Mulroy College in September

Step 7

First year students receive their books, timetables, diaries, stationary before school starts

Step 8

First years start school before any other students and complete a week long induction programme with their class teacher. Every day for one week class teachers take students from 9am-11am to ensure they are familiar with everything and support them where needed

Step 9

All first years are assigned a mentor, an older student to support them throughout their year in first year.

Step 10

All first years take part in a friendship day at the end of September, a day full of team building games and plenty of fun.
