DEIS

DEIS stands for Delivering Equality of Opportunity in Schools.

Schools do not need to apply for DEIS. They are included in DEIS based on information from the national Census and the school’s enrolment. All schools are considered for DEIS.

DEIS in Mulroy College:

Through DEIS, the Government gives extra resources where more support is needed. This will give all students every opportunity to learn, develop and achieve in school.

Mulroy College offers the following with support from DEIS:

  • School Completion Programme
  • The Home School Community Liaison Scheme
  • School Meals Scheme
  • Extra materials to support teachers in the classroom
  • More staff
  • Extra funding
  • A free Breakfast Club
  • The Book rental scheme
  • Home-work clubs
  • Extra Literacy and Numeracy supports for young people where needed.
  • Extra career guidance hours to support young people make decisions about their futures

Mulroy College works closely with parents and guardians to support their child’s learning. We work hard to make sure our students and families feel welcome in school. We also encourage our students to set high expectations for themselves and support them to achieve their potential through education.

DEIS is composed of 8 strands:

  • Attendance – to support students’ attendance at  school everyday and be on time for every class.
  • Retention – to support students to stay in school and find their educational pathway.
  • Literacy – to increase students’ literacy levels.
  • Numeracy – to increase students’ numeracy levels.
  • Attainment – to support students to take Higher level subjects at Senior Cycle.
  • Transitions – to support students transition into 1st Year and Senior Cycle.
  • Partnerships with Parents and Others – to support parents/guardians engagement in their young persons school journey.

The DEIS Team has circulated information for Parents to help explain the different strands of DEIS and how they can support their young person.
