MOWI STEM Lab & Makerspace

Mulroy College and MOWI engineering technology collaboration

Mulroy College partners with MOWI Ireland for exciting STEM project

Mulroy College has recently partnered with MOWI Ireland who will sponsor an innovative STEM Lab and Makerspace which will be fully equipped with the necessary equipment to engage students in the STEM subjects – the STEM Lab will have a mobile component, allowing any classroom to become a STEM Lab.

The partnership has been established with the following conditions as a cornerstone of the project:

The STEM lab will be opened up to local primary schools and community groups to visit and experience. Competitions will be run to promote STEM to primary school students. These will be targeted at our feeder schools with a particular focus on making the STEM experience engaging and interactive.

STEM options for the Leaving Certificate programme will be actively promoted with a particular focus on female students. Cross-curricular STEM links will be promoted through the STEM Lab.

School management will facilitate upskilling courses in Coding and Computer Science in conjunction with ATU Donegal and engage the School of Computing in ATU Donegal to support the delivery of workshops and projects out of the STEM Lab.

The establishment of a MOWI Ireland STEM Scholarship for an initial period of 5 years to one participant in each Leaving Certificate cohort. Value of the scholarship will be decided by MOWI.

MOWI Ireland staff will be invited to contribute to workshops or sessions in the STEM Lab to promote progression to third-level education and raise awareness in relation to pathways into employment in the region.
