We are delighted to announce the graduation of 22 of our female students from the prestigious STEM Passport for Inclusion programme — a national initiative designed to widen access to STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) education and careers.

A milestone achievement

The students have successfully completed the Level 6 (NFQ) Introduction to 21st Century STEM Skills award offered through the STEM Passport programme delivered by Maynooth University. This certification is designed to provide transition-year students with industry-mentored STEM exposure and enhances their eligibility for further study and careers in STEM.

At Mulroy College we are particularly proud that 22 young women from our school have earned this qualification, marking a significant step forward in promoting gender equality and widening opportunity in STEM fields in our region.

What the journey involved

Over the course of the 2024/2025 academic year, the students engaged in:

  • Workshops and mentoring from industry professionals — part of the STEM Passport’s system-thinking approach.
  • Practical STEM tasks and project-based work in our school’s dedicated STEM lab and makerspace, built in partnership with industry and supported by our own STEM team.
  • Preparation for the certification assessment, and reflection on how STEM might form part of their further education or career paths.

Congratulations to our graduates

We extend our warmest congratulations to each of the 22 graduates. Your achievement reflects your hard work, curiosity and willingness to embrace new challenges. You are role-models for your peers and an inspiration to future students at Mulroy College.

Looking ahead

With this foundation, our graduates are well placed to explore courses in engineering, computing, data science, multimedia development or STEM-based apprenticeships. Moreover, the STEM Passport scheme supports what the programme calls the STEMP Pathway into partner universities.

At Mulroy College we will continue our commitment to developing our STEM offering — both through our new turnkey STEM Lab & Makerspace and through targeted support for female students in STEM.

We hope this milestone will encourage more young women in the school to engage with STEM opportunities, push boundaries, and see themselves as future innovators, engineers, technologists and problem-solvers.

Acknowledgements

We would like to thank the STEM Passport team at Maynooth University, our own staff who supported the students, and all the industry‐mentors and volunteers whose guidance made this achievement possible. We also gratefully acknowledge the partnership that enables us at Mulroy College to provide real-world STEM learning experiences for our students.
