Mulroy College 2 – Foxford CC 1

Mulroy College, first year soccer team travelled to Gortnakeegan in Monghan on Tuesday to play in the All Ireland Semi-final against Foxford Community College from Mayo. Conditions were perfect. The game was nail-biting throughout. The first goal came after 16 mins when the speedy Megan mc Loughlin hammered the ball from the far left wing, straight over the Foxford keeper and into the net. The second goal followed five minutes later with the ever reliant Caitlin Heraghty passing a precise ball through to Megan Mc Loughlin, without fail on a one –on-one with the keeper, Mulroy was two goals ahead. Mulroy remained strong, with a very reliable back line of Roisin Carr, Aoife Shields, Ella McBride and Leah McLoughlin. The girls were feeling the sheer strength of the Mayo side, but they were letting nothing through. The captain Caitlin Heraghty lead her team with maturity. The second half, Foxford came out strong. Man marking McLoughin to stop her scoring. She did come close on two further occasions but just went wide of the post. Foxford pressurised Kaylee Bernard in nets until eventually with 10 minutes remained a goal from Foxford inside the 18 yard box. Mulroy teamed together with Aoibheann Shields, Lauren Doherty, Caitlin Herraghty and Megan Mc Loughin always biting at the bit to move forward light lightening. Up front Rachel Boyce and Kaitlyn Hewitt remained on guard if Foxford did slip up. At the final whistle, Mulroy went though. The final will be played on the 15 th May in a venue to be confirmed.
